Nothing else means more selfcare for me than my morning routine!

We’ve been in the camper van in New Zealand for 18 days now and in the beginning it was really hard to stay with my routine. We were getting up together as a family, mostly becuase we needed to leave at a specific time in the morning.

Freedom camping in New Zealand usually means that you can stay for free in a parking lot of some business or a parking lot at a beach or so, but you need to make room for the daily costumers or visitors at about 8 or 9am in the morning.

My routine consists of meditation and workout before a healthy brekfast, but to do that in peace in our ‘one room- apartment’ where our bed needs to be put away for the kids to roll out of theirs and for access to the fridge, it wasn’t easily possible to stay in bed for my meditation….

There came a point, about 10 days ago, when I was super impatient, aggressive, unfair and just not balanced. I knew it was time to concentrate on my needs and follow through.

As the time has gone by and me putting in the extra effort, I have established a new routine in parts and have been more flexible with when each part is accomplished during the day…

If we don’t have to leave our spot and I am awake before the others, I do meditate in bed first thing in the morning, but if that’s not possible, I do it some time in the afternoon or evening.

Same with my workout routine. If I can’t fit it in the morning, I do it after we settle or when the kids are at a playground or something like that. A couple of years ago, I wouldn’t have worked out in front of everybody around me and walking by and such. Now I don’t really care. I feel like I could inspire people to take care of their body and mind too, when the see me working out in front of them and indeed, I had a couple of people comment and asking me about my routine…

I do get in about 15min almost every morning by now. Today even about 40min.

Breakfast is not negotiable. I can make this in the van everywhere we stop 🙂 This is a huge plus of van living!

Our camping adventure is already coming to an end in 2 days! We’ll be in an apartment in Auckland for two nights and then head out to Tahiti. So, it’ll again get a bit more simple to follow my routine and stay balanced 🙂

What are you doing to make sure you do your selfcare?

What does it mean to take care of yourself?

I am curious!

Much love, Annika <3
